Learning in Year 3

Making a Splash! We have wrapped up our two-week whole-school swimming program, and what a fantastic time it was! The students enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to build their confidence in the water, develop essential swimming skills, and participate in water safety activities. It was a joy to see their progress and enthusiasm each day.
Integrated Studies – Feather, Fur and Fin This term, our Integrated Studies theme was "Feather, Fur and Fin", where we explored the fascinating world of animals. Students are working in pairs to research an animal of their choice, diving into its habitat, diet, features, and other key facts. Using their summarising skills, they collected information through safe internet research and created fantastic digital presentations using Pages on the iPad. It was wonderful to see the students so engaged in learning about the natural world and showcasing their creativity and teamwork.
Mathematics – 3D Shapes In Maths, we’ve been investigating 3D shapes and their features—faces, edges, and vertices. A highlight was when students brought in real-life boxes from home to explore the concept of nets of prisms. By opening up the boxes, we were able to connect classroom learning to the real world and deepen their spatial understanding in a fun and interactive way.
Term 4 Next term is shaping up to be just as exciting! We’re looking forward to our whole-school production, and the Year 3 students have already been hard at work during Music lessons and class practices. Their energy and enthusiasm are building, and we can’t wait to see our Dulocians shine on stage.
Our new Integrated Studies theme, “ANTARCTICA MOVES,” will take us on a journey to the icy continent as we explore scientific concepts such as magnetic, frictional, and gravitational forces. We will kick off the term with a special incursion to introduce these ideas in a hands-on, engaging way, before delving into the wonders of Antarctica's unique environment and wildlife.
