Learning in Year 2

What a jammed pack end to term. With swimming, Book Week and production rehearsals we have been super busy. Below are some key dates to put in your diaries:
📅 Key Dates to Remember
- Production Rehearsals: Tuesday 7th October (Cast 1) and Wednesday 8th (Cast 2)
- Shrek Production Night: Wednesday October 8th (Cast 1) and Thursday October 9th (Cast 2)
- Grade 2 Camp In Fun Night: Thursday 16th of October 3.30pm-7pm
Colour Fun Run: Thursday October 23rd
Despite all that’s going on we have been working hard in Grade 2. Read below to find out what we’ve been exploring:
🔢 Mathematics
Over the next few weeks, our focus will be learning about time including the features of an analog clock, telling the time to o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We will finish the term exploring geometry. This includes learning about directional language, turns and half turns. We will be using this language to guide each other from one location to another.
📖 Literacy
The daily implementation of our Spalding program continues as we cement our knowledge of our phonograms, spelling rules and grammar knowledge.
During our writing sessions we have continued to explore information texts. We have used our knowledge of the features of information texts to research farm animals and create an information booklet full of facts and matching pictures.
In reading, our focus has been on improving our fluency. We know we read best when we use expression, automaticity (knowing the words we read), rhythm and smoothness. We’ve been reading together as a whole class, in pairs and individually practicing these skills.
🌱 Integrated Studies: Farm to Table
Students have thoroughly enjoyed our Integrated Studies sessions, learning about food and where it comes from. A highlight was visiting Myuna Farm where we were given the opportunity to see and interact with a variety of farm animals. We especially loved our train ride visiting Australia’s second biggest colony of bats.
📖 Wellbeing
Students have enjoyed exploring the topic of fairness during our wellbeing sessions. We have talked about what being fair looks like and how to be a fair person. In the lead up to swimming, we also looked at body safety and how to keep our bodies safe.
🤝 Thank You
A special shout out to all the wonderful parent helpers we have had this term. From the farm excursion to swimming we are so grateful for your support. We greatly appreciate you!
Thanks for a wonderful Term 3,
The Grade 2 Teaching Team
