Year 5 - Term 3 Wrap-up!

What an incredible term it has been! As we wrap up Term 3, we're so proud of all the hard work, curiosity and collaboration the Year 5 students have shown. It's been a busy and engaging time and we're excited to share some of the highlights with you.

A Deep Dive into Governance

Our new Unit of Inquiry, 'How we organise ourselves', has taken us on a fascinating journey into the world of government systems. The students jumped headfirst into researching different forms of government from around the world including democracy, communism, anarchy and dictatorship. It was a great opportunity for them to develop their critical thinking skills and understand how these systems impact the citizens of a country.

To kick off the unit, we had a fantastic provocation activity. Students were tasked with designing a paper plane and had to follow a set of instructions based on a specific form of government. The results were hilarious and sparked some great discussion, proving to be an engaging and memorable start to our new topic.

The students also put their analytical skills to the test with a hands-on learning task. They researched the structure of the Australian Parliament and organised their findings into a table. This information was then expertly transformed into a bar chart, a practical way to show their understanding of data representation. They all did a truly magnificent job with this challenge!

School Athletics

Despite the cold and rainy weather, our Year 5 athletes showed incredible determination and sportsmanship at the school athletics carnival. They gave it all and it was wonderful to see so many of them encouraging and cheering on their friends. A special congratulations to those students who performed exceptionally well and who went on to represent our school at the district competition.

Supporting the Cancer Council

In recognition of Daffodil Day, our students embraced the spirit of community and compassion. They worked with their Prep buddies to create and decorate vibrant paper daffodils. It was a heartwarming activity that allowed the students to reflect on the importance of this day and raise awareness for the Cancer Council of Australia. The older students were incredibly supportive of their younger buddies, and it was a joy to see them working together and having so much fun.

As we head into the school holidays, we hope everyone gets a chance to rest and recharge for what promises to be a fabulous Term 4.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon!
