FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

As we reach the end of Term 3, I would like to take a moment to thank our students, staff, and families for another productive and memorable term at Inverell High School.
With the holidays just around the corner, I want to wish everyone a safe and relaxing break. I look forward to seeing everyone return refreshed and ready to begin Term 4 – our final term of 2025.
This week, we say farewell to our Year 12 students as they prepare to graduate. Their final assembly this Friday will be a special moment to reflect on their journey at Inverell High School. We wish them every success as they move into their HSC examinations and the next chapter of their lives. Year 12 have embraced their final week with a sense of celebration and pride, strengthening friendships that will no doubt last a lifetime.
They also wrapped up their charity work in fine style, hosting a successful evening auction on Wednesday and a car wash throughout the day – both raising funds for their chosen cause, The Belinda McGowan Foundation. Their commitment to giving back to the community has been inspiring.
We have had a number of outstanding student achievements over the past few weeks that are worth celebrating:
Josh Cathie was named Youth Communicator of the Year 2025 by the Inverell Breakfast Toastmasters Club – a fantastic recognition of his speaking and leadership skills.
Lilly Trevithick continues to shine in the Rotary Public Speaking Competition, winning Round 2 with a powerful and courageous impromptu argument for classroom learning – standing out as the only competitor to challenge the given topic. She now advances to the semi-final in Tamworth on October 18.
Our Clontarf Academy recently returned from the Back to Brewarrina Camp, where a group of young Aboriginal men experienced rich cultural learning and connection – a truly memorable opportunity.
In Week 8, students and parents participated in powerful Bully Zero presentations, helping strengthen our shared commitment to stamping out bullying in all its forms.
We also say goodbye and offer our sincere thanks to a few valued staff members:
Ms Katrina Richardson, an outstanding Mathematics teacher who has supported students at Inverell High for over 15 years, will be finishing up at the end of this term. Katrina has had a profound impact on so many students – not just in helping them succeed academically, but in igniting a genuine passion for mathematics. Her calm guidance, high expectations and unwavering belief in her students will be missed. We wish her all the best as she takes on an exciting new role as Head Teacher Mathematics at Holy Trinity.
Mrs Jess Wells also finishes up with us this term. Jess has contributed across multiple faculties and supported a wide range of students during her time at IHS. We thank her for her energy, adaptability and commitment to students, and we wish her every success in her next chapter.
Inverell High School continues to be a place where learning, leadership, culture and community are celebrated every day.
Thank you again to all staff, students and families for your ongoing support. I wish you all a restful and enjoyable break, and I look forward to catching up again in Term 4.
