Term 3 Showcase 

What a wonderful way to finish Term 3 — with an amazing showcase of your child’s work! Students were so proud to share their learning and achievements with you, including their very own Dreamtime story, a diary entry recount written from the perspective of a convict child, and, of course, their “Objects Tell Stories” presentation.

A big thank you to all the families and friends who came along to celebrate their efforts. We look forward to another exciting showcase at the end of this term — more details to come later in Term 4!

Twisted Science Excursion

Today both classes visited Twisted Science in Moorabbin. Students participated in a workshop called Funky Forces, led by Twisted Science teachers, where they explored the exciting world of forces in action.

Additionally, they had the opportunity to engage with a variety of interactive science installations, allowing students to explore and learn about many different aspects of science in a hands-on and fun way. Such a fun day was had by all!

Term 4 Overview - Curriculum News!

Here are some of the great things happening in Term 4 this year:

Inquiry:

This term, students will develop skills in thinking and acting like scientists to make new discoveries. They will test predictions, explore scientific concepts, and learn how to identify the key elements of a fair test.

Our focus areas include thermal conductivity, changes in states of matter, and different types of forces. Students will also work collaboratively to design a science challenge for the class, which will be showcased at the Science Challenge Show (Showcase)

Maths:

This term, students will be developing their skills in a range of mathematical areas. They will be working with 3D shapes, as well as multiplication and division, while also exploring data investigation and location. Later in the term, students will begin learning about probability and will explore measurement through mass and capacity.

Literacy:

In Writing, students will be learning about biographies and explanation texts, with strong links to our Inquiry unit. In Reading, we will focus on strategies that encourage students to think like scientists. This will include exploring cause and effect, evaluating evidence, predicting outcomes, and synthesising information.

Parents can support literacy at home by encouraging their child to read a mix of fiction and nonfiction texts, discussing interesting facts or discoveries together, and asking questions that prompt their child to explain their thinking.

Education in Faith:

This term, our focus will be on Mary, the Holy Rosary, and the season of Advent. Students will explore the significance of Mary in our faith, learn about the prayers of the Rosary, and reflect on the meaning of Advent as a time of preparation and hope leading up to Christmas.

Families may like to support this learning at home by praying a decade of the Rosary together, sharing Advent traditions, or talking about how their family prepares for Christmas in a faith-filled way.
