Commitment to child safety

Oakleigh Primary School Kindergarten and Out of School Hours Care has a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure the safety of all children who attend the service. We are committed to upholding the child safe standards in creating and maintaining a child safe environment where all children are valued, respected and protected from harm.  The safety, rights and best interests of children is the paramount consideration for all decisions in our service.

We believe that all children have a right to feel safe, secure and develop a positive sense of self and be empowered to share their concerns, thoughts and feelings knowing that they will be heard, respected and responded to.

We value the diversity in our service. We are committed to:

  • Promoting the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
  • Creating a welcoming and safe environment for children who identity with the LGBTIQ+ community
  • Providing safety of children from all cultural, linguistic and religious groups, especially during times of world conflict where some children are more vulnerable.
  • To provide a safe and inclusive environment for children with a disability or who are neurodivergent.

The safety and protection of every child in our care is our highest priority. We will report any concerns about child safety and wellbeing to the applicable authorities (either Department of Fairness, Families and Housing- Child Protection, Orange Door, Victoria Police, Victorian Early Years Victorian Early Childhood Regulatory Authority, The Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority and/or Social Services Regulator- Reportable Conduct Scheme).

We aspire to include parents and guardians in order to foster a collaborative approach to child safety, and an environment where families feel respected and listened to. We view that it is the whole community’s responsibility to ensure children are safe. We aim to provide support to families in their role in caring for and providing a safe environment for their children. By working together, we can create a nurturing and safe environment where every child can thrive.

We are committed to ensuring our policies, practices and interactions are guided by the Child safe standards, The National Law and Regulations and the National Quality Standards.
