Child Safe & Wellbeing
Safety, Respect and Learning
The school holidays are an important time for children to rest and recharge, but long periods without routine can sometimes impact their mental health and wellbeing. Families can support their children by helping them maintain a gentle structure to their days. Encouraging a balance of activities—such as outdoor play, reading, family time, hobbies, and rest—can help children feel settled and positive during the break.
It is also helpful to establish clear boundaries around online time. While digital devices can be a great way to connect and relax, excessive or unsupervised use can affect sleep, mood, and wellbeing. Setting agreed times for device use, keeping devices in shared family spaces, and regularly checking the apps and platforms children are using can help keep them safe online.
Open conversations are just as important. Talk with your child about what they enjoy doing online, who they interact with, and remind them to speak up if anything makes them feel uncomfortable. By combining healthy routines, clear expectations, and ongoing communication, families can help ensure children remain safe, balanced, and supported throughout the holiday period.
