Entering Holy Week: What Lent Leads Us Toward

As Lent comes to an end, we enter the most important time in the Church year—Holy Week. This is when we remember the final days of Jesus’ life: His love, His suffering, and His great gift to us.

Throughout Lent, we have been invited to grow—to be more patient, more generous, and more loving. Now, in Holy Week, we see what that love truly looks like.

Jesus chose to stand with those who were struggling. He welcomed the outcast, forgave others, and stayed true to what was right, even when it became very difficult. His journey to the cross shows us that love is not always easy, but it is always worthwhile.

Holy Week invites us to pause and reflect:

  • How can we continue to show love, even when it is hard?
  • How can we care for others, just as Jesus did?
  • How can we carry the lessons of Lent into our everyday lives?

This is not just a time to remember what happened long ago. It is a time to think about how we live today. When we choose kindness, forgiveness and courage, we walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

As we move from Lent into Holy Week, we are reminded that even in the most difficult moments, hope is coming. Easter is near.

As we come to the end of Term One, we look back with gratitude for a wonderful term of learning, growth, and connection across our school. The classrooms and playgrounds have been filled with smiles and laughter as children reconnected with friends, settled into routines, and embraced new challenges.

Parents joined us for information sessions early in the term, strengthening the partnership between home and school. Our Foundation children settled beautifully into school life, showing confidence, curiosity, and a growing sense of belonging.

Each learning community attended or led a parish Mass at least twice this term, deepening our connection with our parish and supporting the children’s understanding of prayer and liturgy. We were delighted to welcome Father James Fernandez as the new head of our parish, and we look forward to the many ways he will accompany our community.

In the Arts, our Media Arts students created the Stations of the Cross banners that were showcased today during our Holy Thursday walk. Their creativity and reverence added a meaningful visual dimension to our Holy Week reflections.

Across the curriculum, learning has been rich and purposeful. Literature abounded, with children enjoying a wide range of quality picture storybooks and novels. In Mathematics, students continued to strengthen their fluency through daily practice and structured routines. In STSS, students explored concepts in physical sciences, building their understanding through hands‑on investigations and guided inquiry.

Our senior students enjoyed a fantastic sports day where, thankfully, the rain stayed away and all events could be completed. Students in Grades Four and Six also completed their swimming program, developing confidence and safety skills in the water.

Year Six students headed off to camp, trying new things, pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones, and building independence.

Staff engaged in significant professional learning across the curriculum, with a strong focus on deepening content knowledge and strengthening pedagogical practice. They completed the fourth and final day of the Berry Street Education Model and participated in many sessions supporting our whole‑school approach to positive behaviour and the NCCD requirements. Their commitment to ongoing growth ensures that our students continue to receive high‑quality, evidence‑informed learning experiences.

We are grateful for a rich and joyfilled term and look forward to the learning, faith, and community moments that await us in Term Two.
