Our Reception students recently enjoyed a learning experience as they teamed up with their Year 4 buddies to celebrate Harmony Day through games, collaboration, and shared learning.

As part of their current Maths focus, Reception students have been learning how to correctly write their numerals. With the support and encouragement of their older buddies, they put these skills into action by creating their own hopscotch games. The Year 4 students played an important role in guiding their younger peers — helping them form numerals correctly, organise their hopscotch layouts, and build confidence in their abilities. It was great to see the older students supporting and encouraging their younger peers, alongside the enthusiasm and determination of our Reception learners.

In the spirit of Harmony Day, students also explored a traditional French game, “Un, Deux, Trois, Soleil” (similar to “Red Light, Green Light”). This provided a fun opportunity to experience a different culture.

A highlight of the day was the opportunity to share and celebrate our diverse cultures across year levels. Some students were excited to recognise elements of their own cultural traditions, including traditional dress, on their older buddies.

Students also worked together to decorate a special Harmony Day tile using vibrant paint pens. Each buddy class contributed to this collaborative artwork, which will be proudly displayed in our school as a permanent piece celebrating unity, diversity, and the strong connections across our community.
