Prep Excursion Rippon Lea Estate

Last Friday, our Prep students enjoyed their very first excursion to Rippon Lea Estate, bringing their Term 1 History learning to life. As part of our unit on families in the past and present, students explored the grand mansion and learned about the Sargood family and what daily life was like for them in the 1860s. They discovered the important roles of the many servants who lived and worked in the home, and even had a hands-on experience trying tasks such as washing clothes and cleaning rugs.

Out in the gardens, students played traditional games enjoyed by the twelve Sargood children and were amazed to learn that children in the past didn’t have TVs, phones or tablets to keep themselves entertained! The fun continued with a scavenger hunt across a small section of the estate’s 14 acres, where students explored the pond, bridges, aviary, lookout tower and a wide variety of plant life, while also discovering interesting facts about the creatures that live there.

It was a wonderful, eye-opening experience that helped students make meaningful connections to their learning. Overall, it was a fun, engaging and memorable first excursion for our Prep students.
