For six decades, John Mooney has dedicated his life to education in Victoria, leaving an extraordinary legacy that continues to shape the lives of students, families and educators alike.

 

John’s 60 years of service stands as a remarkable testament to his unwavering commitment to ensuring that every student has access to meaningful opportunities and pathways. His tireless efforts to expand options and choices for young people have empowered countless students to discover their strengths, pursue their ambitions and feel a genuine sense of belonging within their school communities.

 

At the heart of John’s leadership is a rare and powerful balance: strength paired with kindness. He has consistently led with clarity, integrity, and vision, while never losing sight of the individual needs of students and families. His compassionate approach has built trust, fostered inclusion, and created an environment where people feel seen, heard and supported.

 

John’s contribution to education extends far beyond the walls of any single school. His work in building connections between educational settings including universities, specialist environments, and mainstream schools, has opened doors and created pathways that did not previously exist. These partnerships have enriched learning experiences and strengthened the broader educational community across Victoria.
