2024 Book Week
This year’s Book Week was a spectacular celebration at our School, brimming with creativity, learning and joy.
This year, the theme ‘Reading is Magic’ inspired students and staff to come together in an amazing display of imagination during the annual Dress Up Parade. A heartfelt thank you goes out to parents, staff and students for creating incredible costumes, which sparked delightful conversations about the magic of reading.
Throughout the week, we were fortunate to host several engaging author incursions. Steve Mushin captivated our Years 5 and 6 students with his insights on creative design and sustainability, emphasising the importance of rewilding our cities for a healthier planet.
Timothy Anastasiadis, Year 6, said, ‘The author visit was great as we got to think about diverse ways of rewilding the world in imaginative ways. Steve Mushin was a great author to choose.’
Andrew McDonald brought laughter and excitement to Years 3 and 4 students through his interactive pantomime-style sessions, exploring his collaboration with Ben Woods on the beloved Real Pigeons series. Meanwhile, our Prep to Year 2 students enjoyed a delightful mix of song, story and dance led by the talented Mark Carthew.
Author and illustrator Sue DeGennaro captivated our ELC students by reading her CBCA Honour book Duck and Bear, followed by an engaging drawing session.
Students enjoyed many activities during recess, led by our passionate Year 6 Library Leader, Jenny Stephens. Years 3 and 4 students particularly enjoyed performing tricks as part of our Magic Show. All participants had an opportunity to spin the wheel to win a prize! Congratulations to all our lucky winners and to Jenny, who organised such wonderful and engaging activities.
On PJ Day, students snuggled up and read their favorite bedtime books, creating a cosy atmosphere that celebrated the magic of reading. The Battle of the Books between Year 5 and Year 6 was a thrilling contest. In a nail-biting finish, the Year 6 team emerged victorious, displaying their quick thinking and teamwork in the final buzzer round.
A heartfelt thank you to Year 7 students Annabelle Chick and Hannah Chalmers who created the questions and hosted the event. Arianna Williams, Year 6, said, ‘I really loved the Battle of the Books as it gave students the chance to do a book competition with some of their friends.’
This Book Week has truly highlighted the magic of reading and the community spirit that surrounds it. Thank you once again to all the students, parents and staff for making this celebration a memorable one!
