Religious Education

Ann Kuric

The Opening School Mass was a special occasion, filled with reverence, joy, and a sense of unity as our school community came together in prayer and celebration. Here are some highlights from our Mass.

We are grateful to our parents and grandparents whose presence and support made the event memorable, and we look forward to more opportunities to come together in prayer and celebration throughout the school year.

Last week we began a very special time in our Liturgical calendar LENT. Children spend time learning about Lent, discovering that this is a perfect time to become closer to God through prayer, almsgiving and fasting. The children presented Lenten Promises during our Ash Wednesday Mass, these personal promises are actions and deeds that will bring them closer to God.

Pope Francis has given us some practical ways that we can fast during Lent.

Will you accept the challenge?

Last week marked  the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity. Project Compassion 2024 reminds us that the good we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. Together, we can help vulnerable communities face their challenges today and build a better tomorrow.

Families have received a Compassion Box this week. Please give generously to Caritas Australia this Lenten season and help vulnerable people around the world, now and for all future generations. With your support, Caritas Australia has been able to assist communities around the world through income generation, water and sanitation, food security, education and disaster risk reduction programs.

We ask that Compassion Boxes be returned during the last week of term.

Over the last week our students have been actively involved in the creation of a class prayer mat. Students have contributed their unique ideas and creativity, resulting in a prayer mat that is truly one-of-a-kind. The prayer mat is a symbol of unity, faith, and the collective spirit of our classrooms. As children gather around the prayer mat, they are reminded of their shared values, beliefs, and the importance of supporting one another on their spiritual journey. The prayer mat will be used during various prayer activities in our classroom, including morning prayers, reflections, and special religious observances.

Year 3 Sacrament of Reconciliation please note the change of day 17th April

Parents of Sacramental years have been asked to fill in an Application for Sacrament form. This form will inform the school of the students that will be receiving a Sacrament this year. It is vitally important that this form be completed and returned this week.

As part of the Sacramental journey students must attend a number of Masses. Parents received a letter regarding this information last week.

While at Mass students have been asked to reflect on what they heard / what they learnt and or how the Gospel spoke to them. Father Dishan or Father Samuel will view and sign this reflection.

Students have been advised to

  • Bring the reflection sheet to mass
  • Write their reflection quietly and independently
  • Be prepared with a pen
  • Not to worry about spelling or punctuation.
