Miss Kim Taggart

Yaama,

Welcome back everyone to another exciting and jam-packed year. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the new members of our school community. My name is Miss Kim Taggart, and I am the Aboriginal Education Assistant here at St Joseph's School. I have been at St Joseph's for almost 5 years and love what I do. My role consists of classroom support for all students as well as running our Cultural Groups from Kindergarten to Year 6, coordinating our NAIDOC Week celebrations as well as assisting our Wii Gaay students.

Cultural groups are run throughout the day for different students. It consists of a 30 minute session that takes place in our Walaay Wii (camp fire) space at the back of the hall. I ask students what they are interested in knowing about their culture and will provide lessons on many different aspects including language, dance, art, history, Dreaming stories and much more. These groups run throughout the whole year, there may be times that I am away and the children will not have Cultural Groups but be assured they will not miss out.

EXCITING NEWS!!!

This year we are fortunate to have two Year 4 students accepted into the Wii Gaay Program - Harrison Roberts and Matilda Craig. The Wii Gaay program is run throughout the Armidale Diocese. It is an identification and enrichment program aimed at assisting identified students in achieving their high learning potential with the school environment.

Together along with Kaylee Bray (Year 5), these three students will be involved in activities and excursions with other students from across the Armidale Diocese.  The Wii Gaay Camp is a major highlight of the program which Kaylee, Harrison, Matilda and myself will take part in this year.

Congratulations Harrison, Matilda and Kaylee. Well done!
