Prayer

Father,

We thank you for the opportunity to begin this new school year, we ask that you bless the students, staff, and families that make our school a great place.

We pray for our staff as they prepare for the year ahead; our St Joseph’s students and families, especially our new Kindergarten students and those students and families who are new to our school; for all those who have completed their schooling with us in 2023 and are now beginning a new chapter in high school.

Welcome back to our 2024 school year! We warmly welcome all of our new families and hope you will enjoy your time at St Joseph’s School and Parish community.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Masses & Liturgies

Shrove Tuesday - Tuesday 13th February

On Shrove Tuesday people traditionally cook and eat pancakes. The reason for this was to use up foods such as fat, eggs and milk before Lent. We will celebrate Shrove Tuesday at St Joseph's by giving each student a pancake to enjoy during their Religion lesson.

Ash Wednesday Liturgy – Wednesday 14th February

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the liturgical season of Lent. To mark this occasion our students will attend a Liturgy at 10am in in our school hall. Normal Sport Uniform to be worn for this Mass. Parents and friends are warmly welcomed to join us at this Mass. Please ensure you sign in at the front office.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. The practice of administering ashes on this day dates back to the Middle Ages. Ashes are intended to remind us of our human condition and that the things of this world are transitory. They are also a sign of repentance. The Ashes are made from burning the dry palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday and are placed on the foreheads in the sign of the cross with the words: “Jesus loves you.”
