GRADE 3 and 4

Literacy Overview:

For reading, students will develop decoding strategies to enhance their comprehension skills, enabling them to tackle increasingly complex texts with confidence. They will then explore how authors utilize illustrations to amplify the narrative, delving into the symbiotic relationship between text and visuals to deepen their understanding of storytelling. In writing, learners will craft narratives rich in vibrant characters, dynamic settings, and compelling events, honing their ability to construct imaginative worlds and engaging plotlines.

Speaking and listening skills will be developed through the exploration of social conventions, emphasizing the importance of effective communication in various contexts. Additionally, students will delve into discussion protocols tailored for reading sessions as they analyse literary works together.

Numeracy Overview:

In number and algebra, students will focus on concepts related to numbers up to 10,000, building a solid foundation in addition and subtraction operations to solve mathematical problems with confidence. In measurement and geometry, learners will delve into the practical application of mathematical concepts by exploring techniques for measuring length, area, and perimeter, providing them with essential tools for real-world problem-solving.

As it is a short term we will begin our work In statistics and probability in term two, the focus will be on conducting surveys and investigations, allowing students to gather and analyse data to draw meaningful conclusions.

Inquiry Overview:

This year presents an exciting opportunity for students to engage in hands-on learning experiences in the garden alongside dedicated volunteers Margaret, Deidre, Leigh, Robin, and Hugh. Through the lens of Permaculture principles such as Observe and Interact, Catch and Store Energy, and Obtain a Yield, students will explore sustainable gardening practices and their impact on the environment.
