PHYSICAL EDUCATION

It's great to be back and working with the students to build strong foundations for positive health and lifelong activities. Over the Summer I've worked to further develop the program to enhance the experience and performance of students in each level. After 7 years of success, it was time to up the expectations and challenges as our students continue to thrive in PE and Sport.

LysterPHYSED- What's happening in the Gym??

PREP- Preps focus on fundamental movements, body strength, coordination, and active listening.

JUNIORS- Juniors are continuing to challenge movement concepts while engaging in Hand-eye co-ordination activities with various object

** NOTE ON P-2- After immersing my learning in research around movement intervention and developmental health, students will be experiencing target exercises and tasks designed to improve motor and brain development. This approach is being integrated into every session.

MIDDLE AND SENIOR- House Athletics is fast approaching and students are training hard to consolidate skills across a range of athletics events as we move to the first BIG school event of 2024.

HOUSE ATHLETICS (GRADE 3-6)

Our first big event of 2024 is on March 6th at Ringwood Athletics Track. We have been forced to move from Knox as they begin a long-awaited redevelopment. We are looking forward to the event as students participate in ability-based groups in age groups and enjoy a fun day of competition and fun with friends. Thanks to the parents who have all put their names down to help!

SPORT

STATE TEAM TRIALS

The first round of School Sport Victoria State team trials began at school this week. 90 students registered to trial and potentially progress to the Region round in April/May. Sports for all genders on offer include Australian Rules Football, Basketball, Cricket, Football (Soccer), Netball and Hockey.

The talent pool is extremely rich at Lysterfield and I along with fellow selectors have been having a tough time through selection criteria to pick the lucky few who are allowed to progress. The depth is extremely exciting as we embark on another big year of LysterSport!

LYSTERFISH ARE READY TO FIRE AT MONASH AQUATIC

Our LysterFish swim team have been training hard on their return to school in 2024 as we prepare for the Rowville District Competition at Monash Aquatic on Friday, February 16th. The team have been up early training at Paul Sadler Swimland Rowville under the coaching of Mr. Mac, Mr Hicks, and Paul Sadler Staff. The personalised approach has really benefited the team and raised the confidence in each swimmer heading into the comp.

Thanks to Mr Mac and Mr Hick for providing their time to coach and mentor our swimmers, and thank you to all the parents and students for continuing to support a fantastic program.

Best of luck to the LysterFish on Friday!!!

LYSTERFIELD AT MAURIE PLANT WORLD ATHLETIC MEET

A cool evening on Thursday 15th Feb at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park saw current and former Lysterfield students compete in 'The Fastest' sprint challenge at the World Gold level event here in Melbourne. Students competed in an 80m sprint challenge as students tested their speed against other sprinters from around Melbourne. In addition to running at the event, the competitors and families were provided access to attend as spectators and enjoy world-class athletics. Congratulations to current student Kaeley B and alumni Caleb L, Teagan W, and Lainie F on their performances! Super proud!!
