Numeracy

We are looking forward to doing a range of numeracy activities with our Level 1 and 2 students. We aim to provide learning tasks that are accessible to every kind of learner. This will be acheived through opportunities for students to use hands on manipulatives and real world examples. Furthermore, every numeracy task is designed to have an enabling and extention element to ensure that the learning intention is achievable for all students.

This term, the Level 1 and 2 students will focus specifically on the Number and Algebra strand of the curriculum. They will be covering the following topics:

  • Place Value
    • Recognise, model, read, write and order numbers to at least 100
    • Locate numbers on a numberline
    • Understanding two-digit numbers as being comprised of tens and ones
  • Addition and Subtraction
    • Use a range of mental strategies such as counting on, doubles, partitioning and rearranging parts
    • Exploring the connection between addition and subtraction
  • Problem Solving Tasks
    • Giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge by giving space to approach a task from their own perspective. This is often launched with a narrative link and some sort of connection to the real world.
