Year 9 Camp
On Monday 4th of December, 16 young adventurers and 3 brave teachers headed off on a survivor (tv show) style camp to Storm King Dam. Day one saw the formation of the two tribes when they received their bandanas - The Sunnysiders (orange) and The Oceanside (blue). In sweltering conditions the two tribes battled in a rewards challenge which involved fencing with a pool noodle. In the afternoon the survivor challenge consisted of a raft building activity and word puzzle. Having a dip in the dam on such a hot day was certainly a relief. As the sun went down and the tribe members had full bellies from their delicious burger meals, they were treated to an outdoor cinema experience around the campsite. Unfortunately the wind, soundbar and lack of access to the internet did not help the activity but the students seemed to be happy with their popcorn, ice-cream and milos.
Day two started with a bacon and egg breakfast followed by another rewards challenge. The student's memories and throwing skills were tested during a variety of activities. A quick pack up of camp gear took place before the tribes headed towards their last survivor challenge in the dam. A lot of squirting and running through the water was followed by a race to solve the survivor logo puzzle. The final result from the challenges over the last two days saw the tribe's tie. They both outsmarted, out-laughed and out "funned" each other, but they also played and with the motto-"Teamwork" to realise that it makes the word "Dreamwork".
A big thank you to Helen Clothier, Roberta Koch and Glenn Caisley for taking these students on such a fantastic camp. Also a big thank you to the students willing to participate in this first-time experience.
