Literacy

We have continued with our sequence of learning stage 1 sounds and now have learnt s, f, m, a, t, p with i and c to follow. We are now able to start using these letters to put different words together to read and write them. We also have a big focus on initial sound, oral segmenting and letter formation during our literacy block. 

When reading texts with the students, our focus has been around the features of a text including ensuring we are reading words left to right, ensuring that we turn one page at a time and ensuring that we are following the text with our finger. Students have enjoyed helping us read repetitive parts of the text which is lovely to see.

Homework bags are also being sent home. They currently have picture story books that your child picked from the library to share with you. Please read these with your child, talking about what happened within the text, who the characters were and the sequence of events within the story. Students will also have an activity to do each week that is based around the letter that we are learning about at school. Homework bags will need be returned on Fridays.

Numeracy

In Maths we have now moved on from our explicit teaching of pattern and shape to focus on numbers and place value. This area is one that we will revisit each term and explore incidentally on a daily basis. Within this unit students will learn to count collections, make collections, match numerals to their value, form numbers, subitise small collections and order numbers according to their value. Students will engage in a range of experiences and use materials to support and consolidate their learning.

School Values Certificates/Assembly

Congratulations to Arham P and Kavya S or receiving their first school values certificates for Respect and congratulations to our first Principals Award winner Irtaza, Well Done! Students will receive their certificate at our school assembly on Friday. Parents are welcome to attend.
