Visual Arts

The Future Creatives exhibition at the Geelong Gallery celebrates the creative practices of emerging young artists from the Geelong region who completed their VCE in 2024. This year, Jayke Severn (Art Creative Practice) and Owen Mueller (Art Making and Exhibiting) are proudly representing Belmont High School, showcasing their ceramic artworks.

On Wednesday, 26 February, we attended the opening event to celebrate the achievements of these talented students. This is a significant accomplishment for both Jayke and Owen.

Owen Mueller (pictured left) uses his playful style and the medium of ceramics to explore Queer culture and identity through his artworks Bedroom and High Heels.

Jayke Severn (pictured right) drew inspiration from imperfection and the Twelve Apostles for his ceramic sculpture, which transitions from sea blues and greens to warm earthy tones. In creating his artwork Inadequacy, he intentionally distorted his wheel-thrown forms, stacking them to appear unstable.
