Book of the Week
The Puppets of Spelhorst
by Kate DiCamillo
There was once a king, a wolf, a girl with a shepherd’s hook, a boy with a bow and arrow, and there was also an owl. They are puppets waiting for their story to begin.
The Puppets of Spelhorst is a warm and curious tale about five puppets on a journey – unwanted and forgotten, lost and found again by many different people. They are also on a journey to find out who they are and what their story is – the king has no kingdom; the owl has great wisdom, but nobody to listen; the wolf has only her teeth to be proud of; the boy has no purpose, and the girl longs to see the world. What will become of these puppets you might wonder?
This book was very quick and easy to read, and it will capture your imagination. There are also lots of gorgeous illustrations throughout. The Puppets of Spelhorst is one of those stories that anyone would enjoy reading – whether you are 8 years old or 100!
