Year 3/4 Team News

with Bec, Mary, Katja, Grace, Alison, Hayley & Steven

Hello Year  3/4 families,

We have reached the halfway mark of term 1 and our 3/4 Willy Kids have been working hard. Wishing you all a relaxing long weekend before we head into the second half of the term.

 Curriculum Focus: Weeks 7-8

Literacy: In Reading, we are learning to identify Roald Dahl’s different vocab in BFG and investigating the meaning of these. We are also exploring the features of information reports.

In Writing, we are learning what the key features of an information report are.

Numeracy:  We are learning to use the different strategies to solve addition and subtraction equations.

We are learning to represent money values in multiple ways and count the change required for simple transactions to the nearest five cent

Recognise the relationships between dollars and cents and represent money values in different ways

Inquiry: We are researching about the Sun and the Moon and exploring the answers to questions such as - What is the importance of the Sun/Moon? What is the Sun/Moon made of? How close is the Sun to Earth? How are the Earth’s tides linked to the Moon?  What are some interesting facts about the Sun/Moon?

Child wise/Respectful Relationships:

What do emotions look like:  Students investigate how emotional responses vary in depth and strength. Students describe situations that can lead to strong emotions.

Reminders:

Art Smocks

Marcia Evans, our Art teacher, would appreciate it if students brought in a named Art smock from home. There is no need to purchase a new one as an old shirt will be okay.

Sun Safety

It has been excellent to see our Grade 3/4’s bringing their hats to school and wearing them during break times. In Terms One and Four, students are required to wear their hats during all outside play. Please ensure that your child’s hat is clearly labelled with their name so that it can be easily returned to them if it is misplaced.

They also require a drink bottle each day.
