Year Two Team News
with Steph, Joel and Rochelle
It is hard to believe that we are already past the halfway mark of Term One, and classroom routines have been well and truly established. This week, the Year Twos attended the Mind and Body Wellbeing incursion, where our students enjoyed a session learning about how calm and stillness can boost both attention and mental clarity for improved emotional regulation and concentration.
We have continued to work on our Term One inquiry unit ‘Where Are We and What is Around Us?’ and have enjoyed many conversations about our knowledge of Williamstown. Our discussions have prompted students to consider their own special place in and around Williamstown. Next Tuesday, the students will begin their oral presentations about Wonderful Williamstown! Please refer to the note sent home with your child this week for more information.
Building independence
With the dust now settled for the start of a new school year, routines have now been established and students are doing a great job at preparing for the day. To further help support the building of student independence can we ask for morning farewells to occur outside of buildings and hallways. Building student independence in getting ready to learn starts with them independently hanging up bags, pulling out their drink bottles and entering the classroom. Providing students the time and space to do so will also decrease congestion and busyness in our hallways. Thank you for supporting our efforts to encourage the students to become responsible and resilience Willy Kids.
Blue Book Bags
It has been pleasing to see so many of our Year Twos remembering to bring their blue book bags to school each and every day. As the students store their take home books and transport other notes to and from school in their book bags, it is important for the students to bring them to school daily. We ask parents to please help us with this procedure by reminding your child to bring their book bags to school every day.
Curriculum Focus: Weeks 7 - 8
Literacy: For the next couple of weeks, we will be writing our own stories based on the idea of a pet having superpowers.
Numeracy: Students are using addition and subtraction strategies and applying them to open ended problems.
Inquiry: We are learning about our local area reflecting on why it is important to us.
Willy Kids: Through the pillar of ‘Respect’, we are learning about consideration and how we can consider other people around us. We will discuss what this looks like both in the classroom, in the school yard and in real life experiences out of school.
