Sandringham Community Bank Donate $15,000!

We are incredibly grateful to Sandringham Community Bank for their generous donation of $15,000 towards our Kitchen Garden project! This amazing contribution will help us to continue to expand the space which sits near the sandpit / Snack Shack space. It will go toward establishing some fencing, as well as an outdoor learning space and outdoor kitchen for students to use.

Whilst all students will spend time in the space and get much from it, initially our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program will be aimed at Grade 4 students, who weekly through their STEAM lesson will be in the garden planting, caring for and harvesting their food to cook and taste. This process will draw in each principle of STEAM and much of the curriculum for these students, and provide them with practical life-skills and experiential learning along the way.

I thank Anne Hostein (Gr 6 Teacher) and Stephen Young (STEAM Teacher) for their commitment to getting this off the ground, and hard work in activating community sponsorship such as this.

I look forward to being able to share further donations that are currently being finalised with you very soon!

Kiss & Go Safety

There have been a number of near misses in the Kiss and Go area recently, some through pure accident and others that could be avoided with more carefully adhering to the parking and road rules. I implore parents to follow these rules, not only because it’s the law, but because it keeps your children and all of us safe. Please stick to the following:

  • No U-Turns across the unbroken white line on Ludstone St
  • No leaving cars unattended in the Kiss & Go
  • No parking outside of the designated Kiss & Go area
  • No double-parking

New Ramps

Ramp works should begin soon, as per last newsletter’s description of this project. It will take place over a term and is part of a statewide program to ensure all school’s ramps are fully compliant with current legislation. This is funded and managed by the Victorian School Building Authority.

China Tour: Final Call

Parents are reminded to notify Jeffic should you wish for your child to participate in the China Tour in September.

NAPLAN Complete

Today, scheduled NAPLAN assessments have finished with only catchup sessions to finalise over the coming days. Congratulations to all students on attempting the assessments and giving them your best efforts. It is a very foreign experience sitting tests in conditions such as this and I commend them all for doing so with such a positive attitude. Many thanks to the teachers too who contributed many hours to not only support students in preparing for assessments but in setting up the administrative side of the assessments in the background. We should receive results in early Term 3.

New & Important Dates

We aim to finalise dates for many end of year events shortly, please look out in the newsletter for these including Soiree, Art Trail, Christmas Carols, Graduation, etc. so that you can plan well in advance for them.  They will also be posted in the Compass Calendar.

  • End of Term: Friday 4th April
  • Start of Term 2: Tuesday 22nd April
  • Curriculum Day: Thursday 24th April
  • ANZAC Holiday: Friday 25th April

To stay up to date with all events and key dates, see the Compass Calendar.

Congratulations

Well done Portia on qualifying for the Regional Swimming Championships recently in the 50m Breaststroke event. The Regionals represents a quarter of the state effectively and so this is an outstanding achievement and we wish her very well in competing!
