Assistant Principals' Report

Dear HPS Community,

Welcome to our newsletter item for this week.

Last week, our Year 3 students arrived at school to find something very unexpected; no chairs at their tables, instead they discovered...

Along with a letter from their classroom chairs...

Students discussed how they were going to persuade the chairs to get back to work! Once they had their ideas planned and organised, they responded to the chairs by writing letters. They are now  in the process of revising and editing their responses for publishing.

The students and staff immersed themselves in the experience to create an authentic, purpose writing experience, it was a lot of fun!

Next week, we will add some sample letters to the striking chairs. Did they manage to persuade the chairs to get back to work?

Take Home Reading Presentation

Thank to the attendees at today's take home reading presentation. The presentation and resources will be sent out to all parents and carers next week via Compass.

Thank you also to Stef Galvin, Learning Specialist as one of the presenters for today and for her leadership as we review and implement improvements in our approach to teaching reading across Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2.

Evolve – Digital Parenting: Safety and Screentime

Last week we held a parent / carer session in the BER with Bec from Evolve Education. Earlier that week all students across the school had participated in the student workshops and staff had also participated in a professional learning session also.

The parent session was attended by families from across the school that actively participated in the content, asking some great questions and sharing experiences with one another.

The following key focus areas were:

-Model safe and healthy balance at home

-Participate in your child’s online world

-Communicate openly about online risks

-Supervise and support

Bec also shared links to Evolve’s website, and particularly the parenting hub.

https://evolve-edu.com.au/parent-support-hub/

The hub has some great resources for families including links to the e-safety guide and the beacon app. If you don’t already have the beacon app on your phone we highly recommend that you look at this great resource. https://beacon.thekids.org.au/

Have a lovely week ahead.
