On Wednesday night, the Grand Final of the 2025 Victorian Mock Trial Competition was held in the Monash Moot Court, where Huntingtower faced off against Tintern in a high-stakes mock murder trial. The proceedings were presided over by Justice Terry Forrest of the Victorian Supreme Court.

Representing the defence, Huntingtower’s team - led by barristers Elle D and Grace T (Year 11) - argued the facts in favour of the accused and successfully secured a verdict of not guilty, earning Huntingtower the title of 2025 State Champions.

A huge congratulations to the entire team: Odessa B-M, Amber T (Year 11), Nirisha G, Zoe P and Oliver S (Year 12), and for their efforts and composure throughout the competition. An extra special acknowledgment goes to Elle and Grace, whose exceptional advocacy impressed both the judges and the audience.

His Honour, Justice Forrest, praised the team, particularly barristers Grace and Elle, and witness Nirisha, for their professionalism, preparation and persuasive courtroom manner. Justice Forrest’s feedback was especially meaningful, given his own distinguished background as a high-profile barrister, notably serving as defence counsel in the David Hookes manslaughter trial.

The students also had the opportunity to engage with the Dean of the Monash Law Faculty, who commended their skill and passion, and encouraged them to consider pursuing law in the future.

Congratulations once again to our talented students for this outstanding achievement. Your hard work, teamwork and dedication have made Huntingtower proud!

Another exciting day in our Chess Program! Our Senior Team represented the school proudly at the Chess Victoria State Finals, competing against 25 schools and 240 students from across the state. The field included many of Victoria’s top chess schools, such as Melbourne High, Waverley Christian College, Scotch, Camberwell Grammar, and Haileybury.

After Round 3, our team sat in 5th place; a slow start. By Round 5, they had fought their way up to 2nd place, just half a point behind the leaders. However, in Round 6, a few tough games saw them slip back to 5th position, which they held until the end of Round 8. While the team felt a little disappointed, finishing 5th in the State against such elite competition is a remarkable achievement.

A special mention goes to Rey Ding, who delivered an outstanding individual performance, finishing 2nd overall with an impressive score of 7 out of 8.

Congratulations to all our players on their effort, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the tournament!
