Learning and Teaching

Learning Space 1 Juniors
As part of our RE learning, Learning Space 1 students explored the story of the Good Samaritan through Godly Play, reflecting on how we can show love and kindness like Jesus in our everyday lives.
Through Godly Play, the students engaged thoughtfully with the story of the Good Samaritan.
They listened carefully and reflected on the importance of showing kindness and compassion to others, just as the Samaritan did.
The children began to make meaningful connections between the story and their own actions, recognising that both their words and body language can show love like Jesus. It was wonderful to see them express their understanding through discussion and examples of how they can care for others in their daily lives.
LS1 Junior Teachers
We enjoyed hearing and exploring the story of the Good Samaritan during Godly Play. It helped us think about what it means to be kind and to care for others, even when they are not our close friends. We learned that the Good Samaritan stopped to help someone who was hurt and needed care, showing great love and compassion.
This made us realise that we can also show love like Jesus through the way we speak and act. We can use kind words, gentle hands, and caring actions to make others feel safe and included. At school, we can listen to others, help our friends, share, and smile to show kindness.
The story reminded us that when we choose to help, care, and love others, we are following Jesus’ example and making the world a kinder place.

Clinic 1 Mathematics
For the last two weeks, Clinic 1 in LS1 have been investigating multiplication and division, with and without regrouping.
To gain further understanding of how it all works, we used Unifix blocks to make up tens. This makes it easier when regrouping to see what is happening. The problem that we worked with was:
34 ÷ 2 =
We made it, split it into two groups and then drew it into our workbooks.
This way we represented the sum in three different ways which all came up with the same answer - 17!

Visual Art News
This year, SFS is keen to continue the tradition of entering the Catholic Education Week 2026 Creative Arts Exhibition. The theme for Catholic Education Week 2026 is, Christ beside me: Walking in the footsteps of Saint Patrick.
The exhibition is a celebration of the creativity, imagination, and faith-filled expression of students across the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
Five students, from SFS this year, will have an opportunity to have their art work submitted this term.
If a parent/ carer does not consent to their child entering this competition please inform me in writing via my email: mjunkeer@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au
Thank you to our students, parents/carers for the wonderful opportunities our students are taking to showcase their vibrant creativity within our Catholic school communities and local communities.
And remember… keep on making the spark in your art grow!

DT Update
This term, our Junior and Senior students have been busy designing digital collages that showcase their interests, personalities, and what makes each of them unique.
With our school-wide focus on diversity, students explored the wonderful ways we are both similar and different — and how these differences shape and strengthen our school community.
To create their digital masterpieces, the Juniors worked in Google Slides while the Seniors used Canva. Along the way, they developed valuable digital skills such as editing text, inserting and manipulating images, and customising backgrounds to bring their ideas to life.
We’re so proud of their creativity and the individuality they’ve expressed through their designs. Check out some of their amazing work below!

SPORT
BIKE EDUCATION
Week 6 – SESSION 1
The fifth graders are becoming acquainted.
1. They demonstrated exceptional listening skills to instructions while using their bicycles.
2. The safety considerations associated with cycling include the management of shoelaces, as well as maintaining an appropriate distance from the bicycles ahead and behind during the ride.
3. When navigating a tight corner, what is your strategy, and at what speed do you operate your bicycle?
They have gained a clearer understanding of which student exhibit confidence in riding their bikes and which ones need additional support and guidance. It is essential to communicate to the students the significance of safety and enjoyment during their biking experience. Furthermore, engaging in regular activities is crucial, as it contributes to the enhancement of fitness, health, and overall well-being.
NOTE
Grade 5 students will remain on school grounds completing cycling skills and simulations until the end of week 10.
Students will need to bring their bikes and helmets to school on Friday’s. We remind students that if they are riding to school they will need to dismount their bikes and walk on school grounds. Bicycles and helmets can be left outside the students’ Learning Space. If parents are dropping off bicycles at school, they can remain in the Bike Shed for the duration of the program.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
WHOLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS
SFS AFTER SCHOOL WOOLWORTHIS CRICKET BLAST PROGRAM
Our after-school cricket clinics will continue next week.
The date of the last clinic is:
Week 6 Wednesday November 12th
Parents are most welcome to attend but will need to be at school to pick up their child by 4.15 pm unless your child is going to After School Care. We can organise students to be dropped off there after the clinics. The pedestrian gate near the Hall will be open for parents so you can enter the school grounds and head straight over to the oval. Please use this gate when leaving the cricket program also.
SWIMMING IS BACK! WEEK 6
Swimming continues!! Thanks to all the parents who ensure that their child is prepared for their swimming lesson each week. It makes the office ladies job much easier. Thank you also to parents who assist in the Junior change rooms. Please remember that only the parents I have organised will be allowed to enter and assist in the change rooms.
Swimming next week is normal sessions. Please see swimming details below:
Monday – LS1 Seniors, LS1 Juniors, LS3 Juniors
Tuesday – LS3 Seniors, LS2 Seniors, LS2 Juniors
Students will need to wear their bathers under their sports or regular uniform, whichever is easier for them to change in and out of, and bring a bag with their towel, undergarments and thongs. Students will put their thongs on before leaving for swimming to make changing easier. They will then put their shoes back on once they return to school.
Please ensure your child is prepared for their swimming lesson so our office staff do not need to use their valuable time ringing parents and asking them to bring swimming gear.
Parents please note you are welcome to attend Casey Leisure to view your child’s lesson but photographs and videos are not allowed and only parents who have been contacted by me, are able to assist in the junior change rooms.
A reminder to parents that swimming is an important part of the PE curriculum and all students are expected to attend. It’s imperative that students know how to keep themselves safe around water. If there is a medical reason your child cannot attend a session, they will then remain at school in another Learning Space.
