Grade 1/2 News

This term has been both busy and productive for our Grade 1/2 students, with terrific progress made across all areas of learning.

In maths, students have been learning about fractions, focusing on equal parts of a whole, including halves, quarters and eighths. Through practical activities and discussions, they have developed an understanding of how fractions represent parts of a group or shape. The students certainly enjoyed creating their own fraction fish!

Our recent writing focus has been on procedural texts. Students have been learning to write clear, sequenced instructions using time connectives and action verbs. A highlight was making fairy bread and students did a wonderful job writing up the procedure. This activity also linked well to our work on fractions, as we cut the fairy bread into halves, quarters and even eighths!

Last week we had our F–2 excursion to Billabong Ranch near Echuca. Students participated in a range of activities including mini golf, bouldering and the bungee trampolines. The trampolines were certainly very popular! Back at school, the fun continued with afternoon activities, a pizza dinner and ice cream. The Grade 1 students then went home, while the Grade 2 students stayed on for a school sleepover. We were very impressed with our students’ behaviour and cooperation throughout the day and evening. A fun event enjoyed by all!

This week, students have also been learning about Remembrance Day. They explored the significance of the day and created their own poppies to wear during our school service.

We are busy preparing for our upcoming school concert! The students have been working hard to learn their disco dance routines and our moves are really coming together. It’s always such a special event and I know we will look amazing on the night!

It has been a productive term and I am so pleased with the way the Grade 1/2 students continue to approach their learning. Be sure to check out our lovely photos below!
