Literacy

This term, students have been immersed in the beautiful poetry of Gunai artist, writer and poet Kirli Saunders. Through her poems and a series of short videos, students have gained an insight into Kirli's creative writing process, discovering what inspires her and the tools she uses to bring her ideas to life.

This week, students enthusiastically created their own poems inspired by rain. They experimented with a range of figurative language techniques to paint vivid pictures with words and express their ideas creatively. Students also explored the concept of salience, carefully considering how the placement of words, images and design elements can create visual impact and capture a reader's attention. We were delighted by the creativity, imagination and thoughtful choices students demonstrated in both their writing and presentation.

Mathematics

Stage 2 students have been developing their multiplication skills, with a strong focus on using the written algorithm to multiply two- and three-digit numbers by a one-digit number. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they tackle larger calculations and apply their understanding of place value. Stage 2 students are now exploring geometry by classifying angles and using a set square to identify perpendicular lines.

During the previous fortnight, Stage 3 students have been building their understanding of adding and subtracting fractions with mixed numbers and unlike denominators. By carefully showing their working, students have improved their accuracy and confidence. This week, they have begun exploring complementary and supplementary angles to calculate unknown angles.
