Matthew 14:13-21 

The feeding of the five thousand 

 

In  Sunday's Gospel, Matthew 14:13–21, we hear the familiar story of Jesus feeding the five thousand with just five loaves and two fish. Faced with a hungry crowd, the disciples saw only what they lacked. Jesus, however, saw what was possible when people trusted God and shared what they had. 

 

The key message of this Gospel is that even the smallest gifts, when placed in God's hands, can make a great difference. Jesus invites us to respond to the needs of others with compassion rather than turning away. Through generosity, faith, and a willingness to share, there is enough for everyone. 

 

At St Liborius Primary School, this Gospel reminds us that each member of our community has something valuable to offer. A kind word, a helping hand, including someone in a game, sharing our talents, or caring for those in need are all ways we continue Jesus' mission of feeding others—not only with food, but with hope, kindness, and love. 

REFLECTION PRAYER

Loving God, 

Thank You for the example of Jesus, who looked upon the crowd with compassion and showed that even the smallest offering can become a great blessing in Your hands. 

Help us at St Liborius to be generous with our gifts, our time, and our kindness. Teach us to notice those who may be lonely, worried, or in need, and to respond with caring hearts. 

May we remember that, like the five loaves and two fish, every act of love—no matter how small—can make a difference when it is shared. 

Bless our students, families, and staff, so that together we may build a community where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and cared for. 

Inspired by the example of our patron, Saint Liborius, may we faithfully share Your love with others each day. 

We ask this through Christ our Lord. 

Amen.

TERM 3 STUDENT AWARDS 

At St Liborius, we celebrate students who demonstrate the characteristics of our founders. These awards are not just about what students do, but also about who they are and how they treat others. 

 

We are guided by our founders: Catherine McAuley, Mary MacKillop, and St Francis of Assisi, along with Henry Backhaus who helped build our local Catholic community. They showed kindness, courage, and care for others, and we try to follow their example every day at school.
