Celebrating the Feast of St Mary MacKillop
On Friday, our school community gathered together for a special liturgy celebrating the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s first saint. The liturgy was beautifully led by our Year 3D students, who helped us reflect on Mary’s remarkable life, faith and commitment to serving others.
Throughout the liturgy, we learnt more about Mary MacKillop’s determination to ensure that all children had the opportunity to receive an education, particularly those who were poor or living in isolated communities. Her life showed great courage, compassion and trust in God, even when she faced challenges along the way.
We reflected on Mary’s well-known words, “Never see a need without doing something about it,” and considered how we can follow her example in our own lives. Whether it is including someone who feels left out, helping a friend, showing kindness or noticing when someone needs support, we too can put our faith into action through the choices we make each day.
Our Year 3D students did a wonderful job leading the prayers, readings and reflections with confidence and reverence. We are very proud of the way they helped create a meaningful celebration for our whole school community.
A special thank you also goes to our families and community members who joined us for the liturgy. Celebrating these important feast days together provides our students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of our Catholic faith and recognise how the lives of the saints can continue to inspire us today.
May we continue to follow St Mary MacKillop’s example by looking for opportunities to show faith, courage, compassion and service in our school and wider community.
