ACD (formerly known as Association for Children with a Disability and now known as Advocating for Children with a Disability) is running a range of free different online workshops.

One coming up soon is Teens and Beyond, a three-part online workshop series for parents of teens with disability aged 13+.

Your child's teenage years include secondary school adventures, puberty, and growing independence. As a parent, you play an important part in helping them identify their strengths and aspirations and supporting them to make decisions. It's a time of huge change, and so each 2.5-hour session focuses on a different area and will give you information to build the knowledge and skills you need to navigate this time confidently.

Each workshop consists of three consecutive sessions over three weeks and begins on the following dates:

  • Monday 12 May 10:00 am
  • Monday 12 May 7:00 pm
  • Tuesday 13 May 10:00 am
  • Wednesday 14 May 7:00 pm

All workshops are led by professional facilitators who are parents of young people with disability and who have personal experience in navigating the teenage years.

This workshop looks at:

  • Financial support
  • Building your teen’s independence
  • School and post-school options
  • Wellbeing: friendships, communication, behaviour support and good mental health

If you have a child aged 16+ years and missed the Post School Options Expo we held at school last term, there is another opportunity to see a range of providers at the Heatherwood Post School Options Expo on Wednesday May 21st from 1pm - 6pm. The address for Heatherwood School is 370 Springvale Road, Donvale.

NDIS also have a Connections Desk at local libraries each month. You do not need to make an appointment, you can just turn up and ask any questions about your child's NDIS plan. For dates and locations, see flyer below:
