Term 2

It's great to be back and in the swing of term 2. Our new front of school, parent/visitor carpark, front gate and footpaths are open. The car and foot traffic at drop off and pick up times are working smoothly, and it's nice to see more families and carers each day. If you have any feedback about how these new traffic arrangements are going, please let us know.

We are excited to have a Multicultural Education Aide on staff, Hannah Awi. Hannah has started to make connections with many parents and carers. Hannah is available to support communication between families and school; she speaks fluent English and Hakha Chin, and can assist all families to connect with school. You will see Hannah at the front of school in the mornings and afternoons. You can also reach out to Hannah by phoning or visiting the main office, 9725 4933.

This term we are pleased to commence a new library program in our new library. Lorraine and Davalin, our Library teachers have been planning for classes to transition to and use this new space and engage with a wide range of books. They are working towards students borrowing books to take home to enjoy with family.

Staff Updates

This term we welcome Sarah and Brigid as the new teachers of room 18. We also welcome Lorraine to our specialist team, who is teaching our new Library program.

Rosie, classroom teacher of room 6 will be finishing next week. We welcome Stacie as the new teacher of room 6.

We have recently appointed two new Education Support staff members, Rochelle and Abbey, who will both work in Primary 1.

Building Project Update

Early this week staff received pool training, to learn how to use the new plant room, hoists and other pool equipment. We are now waiting for an official handover; this is planned for 14 May. Following this we will have the local council visit to sign off that we are compliant and can commence our swimming program. We have begun work with Life Saving Victoria to prepare our documentation required to meet council pool registration requirements.

We will let you know when the swimming program commences, with a reminder of your child's swimming day and they will need to bring.

Education Week

Monday 19 - Friday 23 May we join in Victoria's Education Week celebrations. This year the theme is Celebration of Cultures. Our community Engagement team and leadership team are currently organising some cultural experiences for students to participate in during this week, including an African Oz Drum and Dance incursion.

We invite family members to join in the incursion on Friday 23 May; Primary students will be attending between 1:30-2pm, and Secondary / Transition students will attend between 2:15-2:45pm. We would love you to come and join the fun.

Please let you child's classroom teacher know if you will be attending.

Mother's Day Stall

Classes will attend the Mother's Day Stall on Thursday 8 and Frida 9 May. Once again a big thank you to Leanne for organising the stall, and with Bec's assistance for running the stall. It's wonderful that our students have this opportunity to purchase a special item to thank a significant person in their life.

Attitudes to School Survey

The Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) is offered by the Department of Education every year to help schools and the department understand students' experiences of school. We will be asking Secondary and Transition students about their thoughts and feelings about their school, their learning, relationships with other students, resilience, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.

This survey has been running for nearly 20 years and helps schools plan programs and activities to improve your child's engagement with school, their wellbeing and their learning. The survey data also helps the Department of Education understand how to improve student learning.

This year, the survey will be conducted at your school from 12th May to 13th June.
