Preps

It is hard to believe that we are already into the second term, the time has flown by. The Preps have started the second term in fine form, they have been switched on and the learning that has been happening in both classes is impressive.
In English this term we will continue to look at the main sounds that the letters of the alphabet make. We have also begun to look at some digraphs. They are two letters that make one sound, the first digraph that we have looked at is the ck sound. In reading we will continue to work on blending sounds and start to explore what fluency is and making our reading sound smoother. In writing we will continue to consolidate our basic writing skills and become 100% independent at writing a simple sentence. You will find some amazing pictures below of the writing that has occurred this week.
In Maths, we will continue looking at number patterns and counting. We have begun to examine how a two-digit number is constructed, and that the 1 in a teen number such as 18 is actually a 10. Other topics that we will look at during the term will be time, position and location.
After looking at the different types of emotions in Term One, this term we will explore strategies that we can use when feeling a certain way. This week we have practiced our ‘butterfly breath’ when we are feeling frustrated.
The Preps had a great time at the AUSLAN incursion yesterday and are making huge progress with their ability to use the signs. Last week they worked on putting two signs together to say the colour and name of an animal.
One final reminder could all jumpers and jackets please have the students name clearly written on it. In this mild weather jumpers seem to come off and on a lot during the day and making sure all items of clothing return to their owner is proving a bit of a challenge.
