Physical Education

Hi Friends and Families,

We’ve had a rip-roaring start to this term with all things running, running and more running. We finished up Running Club in week 2 in anticipation of the Hanging Rock Cross Country this Tuesday. I was so impressed with the regular turn out of incredibly dedicated and enthusiastic runners, prepared to get up early to improve their running fitness ready for the big day. And what a day it was!! Not only were the conditions ideal with blue skies and an almost summer heat, the day ran so smoothly with runners from over 10 schools cheering and supporting each other!  Lancefield Primary were amazing as always, not only were they cheering on their own runners but those from other schools. Thank you for being so wonderful! All of our runners did such a great job, setting themselves goals before the race and it seems most of them achieved those goals. Whether it was to finish in the Top 20, to run most of the way, to finish the race or for some, it was to come in the Top 5! Congratulations to everyone and we need to continue our support for Emma who came 1st in the 10 years girls, Kaylee who was hot on her heels in 5th place and Ayla who came 2nd in the 11 years girls. These runners will be going on to the Castlemaine event next Friday 16th May…we wish them all the running luck in the world!

In Prep this term we are doing the basics of gymnastics. The students are trying their hand (and feet) at the beam, vault and floor. It’s a pretty high energy session with the music playing and kids jumping and rolling. The students are learning about balance, strength and how gymnastics can give them the skills they need for a whole range of sports.

All other grades are in the early stages of Athletics, beginning with long and triple jump. We’re having a great time learning the skills needed to jump as far as they can…apologies if they’re coming home with shoes full of sand, kind of comes with the territory. Health classes have started this week students discussing what Identity means, who we are and what we want to be in the future. We talked about respecting the identity of others and what it means to be inclusive and kind.

Have a great week everyone!
