Caring Learning Growing: Every Child Every Day
Dear Families,
What a busy fortnight it has been. Our Grade 3 and 5 children have been sitting Naplan assessments. This can be challenging for our children as they have to sit there without their teachers' normal support and scaffolding. Our teachers also find it tough as their normal instinct is to help the kids. I am incredibly proud of how our children just gave it a go. Remember, it is one assessment on one day; it can never capture all our children know and all their incredible strengths.
Speaking of Strengths! Congratulations to our Grade 6 children on winning the Science and Engineering Challenge this week. The children were innovative, creative and dynamic thinkers across the day. Their teamwork was exceptional. We are all so proud of them; maybe some future scientists and engineers are in the group.
Today, we celebrate Harmony Day and World Down Syndrome Day. As a school, we stand proudly as a diverse and inclusive community.
In his book Here We Are, Oliver Jeffers writes, 'People come in many shapes, sizes and colours. We may all look different, act different, and sound different. But don't be fooled; we are all people.'
Our school recognises and celebrates each child's uniqueness and will always do so. Difference is normal; celebrate, learn from, recognise, and embrace it.
On a personal note, I will be taking some Long Service Leave. I will be away in the last week of this term and the first two weeks of Term 3. Lisa will be acting Principal in my absence, and I know that our wonderful staff will keep things running like clockwork.
I hope you find some time this weekend to remind your children how wonderful they are and that their strengths and challenges are a part of them
Enjoy your weekend.
