Week 9, Term 1 2025

Principals Message

A huge thank you to all the parents and whānau who came along to support our Hui Fono evening. We gathered some fantastic feedback, and we’re excited to share that we’ve already actioned some of the ideas you brought forward.

One key piece of feedback was about making homework more accessible, especially for families working from phones. In response, all classes will now send home a homework sheet at the beginning of each week. This will include:

  • A reading activity relevant to your child’s current learning
  • Basic facts practice
  • Vocabulary linked to curriculum topics
  • A brief summary of what is being taught during the week

We hope this provides a clear window into what your tamariki are learning and helps support learning at home.

We also received valuable feedback about our house points system—particularly around ensuring it's fair, consistent, and effective. We’re currently reviewing the system based on your suggestions and working on some positive updates.

Your voice is an essential part of our ongoing progress. Thank you for being engaged and helping us make Ridgeview School the best it can be for our community.

Staffing in Term 2

We’d like to let our community know that Daniel Kemball has resigned from his position as he will be moving down south soon. Daniel’s final day at Ridgeview School will be Thursday, 4th April.

To celebrate his time with us, we’ll be holding a special assembly where students can share their fond memories of working with Daniel over the years. Daniel began his journey at Ridgeview as a teacher aide and went on to complete his teaching degree. His musical talents, positive energy, and cheerful demeanour will be greatly missed by students and staff alike.

We are incredibly proud of all he has achieved and look forward to hearing about his new adventures in his next role.

If you’d like to join us for Daniel’s farewell assembly, it will be held on Thursday, 4th April at 2:15pm in Wāhi Pakari. Everyone is warmly welcome.

In Term 2, we will also be farewelling Claire Gibbons as she begins her maternity leave for the remainder of the year. We wish Claire all the best as she prepares to welcome her new baby — such an exciting time for her whānau!

We’re also pleased to welcome Paula Al Amundi to our Ridgeview whānau. Paula will be stepping into Claire’s role, and we’re excited to have her joining our team. She has written a short bio to introduce herself:
