Term 1 from the garden to the mouth or beak.
We have really enjoyed our own produce this term, having it at snack time or adding it to our lunch and even having excess to have on our excess cart for families to take home. We have had tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, zucchini, beans and more recently WATERMELON for our students to try and enjoy. The companion planting of flowering plants has really added a touch of colour and has made our garden beds quite eye catching. We now have some herbs available in the garden, so if you desire some fresh parsley, sage, thyme or chives, please help yourself.
We have also offered old plants to families for a bit of chook food and livestock food and have received eggs for breakfast club in return, thank you very much to our egg suppliers, actually the supplier is really the chook so, thank you to the egg supplier owners and couriers as well.
Breakfast club was lucky to receive a healthy eating grant towards the end of 2024 which assisted us in offering many different options for breakfast this term. Pancakes, trail mix, Neesh’s quiches and croissants are available on certain days and every day students can help themselves to our regular toast and cereal. We also have milo and juice to make breakfast complete. I am hoping for another grant to keep the extras on the menu.
Every now and again the excess trolley is brought out at home time offering excess food from breaky club and produce from the garden to students and parents for their enjoyment at home. This has been really good with very little food wasted and families can have reduced cost meals. Some would say “a win win situation.”
On a personal note, I have totally enjoyed spending time with students having chats about life’s triumphs and challenges. The health and well-being of all people is important and something that is of high importance to me. I would like everyone to please relax over these school holidays and appreciate YOU…Who you are, what you achieve, where you fit and belong and the unique qualities you have. Have fun and indulge in what makes you happy. See you next time I’m looking at you.
