Room 1 Years 3 -6

My goodness it's the end of the term already! What an awesome ride it's been! I thought for this week's newsletter I would countdown my top 10 favourite moments of the term. Here we go....

10. STEM Challenge

Coming in at Number 10 is the day I stepped in as the 'Science' teacher and participated in STEM with all the students. I really enjoyed this day because I got to work with everyone, not just Room 1 (even though I do appreciate them a lot!) It was a fun-filled day and it gave the children an opportunity to show their creative side.

9.  Getting new books

Mrs. Johns made the bold decision to trust me with the school credit card (questionable move…), and let’s just say I enthusiastically stocked up on new resources. As a proud bookworm, this was basically a dream come true! We’ve already put some of these texts to good use in our Writing lessons, using them for author studies that have helped us level up our vocabulary and sentence structure.

8.  Professional Learning

This term, I had the opportunity to attend two fantastic workshops—Writing Masterclass and The Science of Learning. I loved exploring new concepts and applying them in the classroom, and it was incredibly rewarding to see students thrive as a result of these strategies.

7. Neesh's Quiches

Every time I stepped into the Cowfe, it felt like I was competing in an intense episode of MasterChef—minus the dramatic music and Gordon Ramsay yelling. But somehow, I actually enjoyed whipping up quiches every second week. I never really saw myself as much of a chef (unless burning toast counts), but Atti and Tom’s feedback gave me just enough hope to keep showing up for Neesh’s Quiches. Who knew a little praise and a lot of eggs could turn me into a semi-confident cook?

6. Social and Emotional learning

Children have been actively applying the skills gained from social and emotional learning (SEL) into their daily lives, demonstrating greater resilience and selflessness. They are better equipped to navigate challenges, managing setbacks with a positive mindset and perseverance. Instead of becoming easily discouraged, they approach difficulties with problem-solving strategies and emotional control.

5.  Cowpliments

The Cowpliments among staff were a fantastic way to bring us together as a team. It was heart warming to see people's faces light up when they received thoughtful feedback. Just one Cowpliment had the power to turn an ordinary day into a great one!

4. Building new friendships

This almost takes the top spot, but honestly, the next four could all be tied for first place. The friendships I’ve built with both the kids and staff have been absolutely incredible. Moving from Bairnsdale, I was nervous that I wouldn't make any friends. But wow, am I glad I was wrong! Stepping into something new can be daunting, but more often than not, the best experiences come from taking that leap.

3. Laughing

I’m pretty sure my stomach muscles have had a full workout since starting at Cowwarr—purely from all the laughter! The staff room is always buzzing with joy, whether it’s a light- hearted joke or a hilarious trip down memory lane, we always know how to have fun.

2. Student's academic growth

As a team, we’ve achieved incredible success across all learning areas! Every student has shown growth in their own way, but I have to give a special shoutout to Emma and Ethan, who doubled their scores in their Numeracy post-test compared to their pre-test—an amazing achievement! While education isn’t just about scores or assessments, seeing the effort each student puts into reaching their goals makes every single day so rewarding.

1. Swim Day

Swim Day was absolutely the best!! Honestly, adults sometimes forget to loosen up and just enjoy the moment. This Fun Day was the perfect reminder of how great it feels to be present, laugh with the kids, and embrace the joy of the day. Aside from the kids totally showing me up on the waterslide, I wouldn’t change a thing!
