F-2

This term in STEM, the Foundation and Grade 1/2 students will be delving deeper in to Chemistry. The Preps and 1/2s learnt about the different states of matter. We played a funky song and watched a video about how water can be all three! The 1/2s had to use stickers to represent the molecules that make up a liquid, solid or gas. The Preps focussed on liquids and explored how water can be all three states of matter when heated or cooled.

Year 3-6

Before embarking on our Chemistry journey, we revisited class expectations to ensure the students will understand all safety required before beginning experiments. The student work was created using the CANVA APP. This allowed students to experiment with advancing their technological skills and create posters that can be displayed across the spaces. The 3/4s got to do a science experiment on OOBLECK, lets just say it was messy but exploring how it is like a liquid and like a solid was very engaging!

FOUNDATION:

In our Foundation sessions, we have been exploring primary colours and the ways to create secondary colours. Foundation students created primary and secondary coloured ladybugs. They look super cute!

GRADE 1/2:

In grade 1/2, the students have been busy making a mixed media collage of a sunflower. They have been using their fine motor skills to scrunch and glue small pieces of tissue paper onto their flowers.

GRADE 3/4:

In grade 3/4, we are have been exploring still life drawing by collecting leaves and flowers from outside, and drawing exactly what we see. The students enjoyed collecting their objects to draw and exploring the elements of art we can see in nature, such as line, colour and shape.

GRADE 5/6:

In grade 5/6, we explored still life drawing by drawing an apple that was placed onto our table. We used oil pastels to create the colours we could see. The students enjoyed this task and presented amazing work.

Physical Education [PE] is a tremendous way to get students active while also teaching them important life skills, improve their physical health, and develop a love for being active.

During PE, students will:

  • focus on fundamental skills [e.g. running, catching, balance]
  • play games to reinforce the skills
  • foster social skills
  • celebrate their efforts, building confidence and a love for sport.

Each session will have a:

  • warm-up activity to get their muscles ready
  • skill development activity
  • fun game - teamwork and cooperation.

We have started PE this term by playing students’ favourite games, teaching the skill of running, and for the 5/6s playing Interschool Sports.

Foundation A-B

Foundation A/B students are excited to be back to learning Spanish, after a long, well-deserved break. This week, students have started learning vocab related to parts of the body. Students seemed to be engaged, and therefore, have contributed enormously to the development of this Spanish program since the very beginning of TERM 2. In the following session, students will be working on key vocabulary such as cabeza-head, ojos-eyes, nariz-nose, boca-mouth, etc. through activities that allow them to recall and extend these words in context.

Grade 1-2

Grade 1/2 students have started learning vocabulary related to FOOD. This week, students have read 'El Ratón Glotón' (The Greedy Mouse) as part of a shared reading activity. Learners have engaged with words that help us quantify objects (una/unas/dos/tres); in English: a/some/two/three, to describe food they saw during the reading time. They've been able to recognise and pronounce vocabulary in a post-reading activity and associate new words to their current lexicon knowledge.

Grade 3-4

It has been an amazing and exciting start of TERM 2 for Grade 3/4s, who have been able to join Education Perfect (EP) for learning Spanish. This interactive platform was designed for language learners across New Zealand and Australia to engage with meaningful tasks where different linguistic skills (listening, writing, speaking, reading, viewing) are put into practice while keeping students engaged with the Victorian Curriculum Version 2.0. This additional multimodal resource will strengthen our students Spanish skills providing a wide variety of activities that support different learning styles.

Grade 5/6s

Grade 5/6 students have been working on creating an essential class agreement for TERM 2. Each group of students have come up with ideas that contribute to our school values (RESPECT, KINDNESS, LEARNING TOGETHER). Our students have discussed and presented strategies that will help them follow their agreement plan and have committed themselves to follow it throughout the school year. Students have shown commitment and engagement when doing this activity while some others have expressed the importance of having spaces for sharing and learning with peers.

In the following weeks, 5/6 students will also be joining Education Perfect (EP). This interactive platform was designed for language learners across New Zealand and Australia to engage with meaningful tasks where different linguistic skills (listening, writing, speaking, reading, viewing) are put into practice while keeping students engaged with the Victorian Curriculum Version 2.0.
