Dear Families
Welcome to Term 2! We hope you all had a restful break and are ready for an exciting and productive term ahead. We are looking forward to a term full of learning, growth and fun experiences.
In Reading, we are focussing on building reading comprehension skills through shared and guided reading. Students will develop their comprehension skills by using strategies such as questioning, inferring and summarising. Students will learn about the text structure and features of a fiction and a non-fiction text.
In Writing, students will learn to write narratives and information reports. They will develop their skills to plan, draft, edit and publish their own piece of writing.
Systematic Synthetic Phonics Program
Systematic Synthetic Phonics is a structured and evidence based method of teaching reading and writing where students are explicitly taught the relationship between sounds (phonemes) and letters (graphemes). Through this method, students will learn to blend individual sounds together to form words (blending) and to break words down into their individual sounds (segmenting).
In Maths, students will explore and learn about place value, addition, subtraction and patterns. Students will also work on problem-solving tasks to build on their mathematical thinking and confidence.
Our Inquiry focus for this term is ‘past and present’. Students will learn about the following key concepts:
We would like to encourage you to be a part of your child’s learning by engaging them into conversations about the things you used to do when you were a child such as games you played, toys you used, types of houses you were living in, how were the schools like and what kind of technologies did you use etc.?
In SEL, Students will learn about different coping strategies. This will increase their abilities to manage stress, control impulses and overcome obstacles. Students will also learn about problem solving by developing their creative and critical thinking skills to explore different types of problems. This will help building their ability to make responsible decisions and choosing different ways of solving problems.
