Foundation A - Miss Nealy & Foundation B - Mrs Davi

We have been working as a teaching cohort on improving literacy across the school. In prep, we are focusing on blending familiar letter sounds and using our knowledge to sound out words. The children are becoming increasingly more confident with blending familiar letters to read three letter words. We have introduced heart words, which are common words in the English language that children learn to sight read. At this stage, we are working on the heart words I, T/the, and M/my.

We have been working on letter formation and making sure we are writing neatly and carefully with guidance. The foundation students have also started to write simple words using known letter sounds. We have been learning about simple sentences using a subject and an action (such as I sat).

In Prep we have been exploring the difference between weekdays and the weekend, and what activities we can do on those days. The children are learning that we attend school on the weekdays, and do fun activities and spend time with our families on the weekends. We have also been exploring the different times of day, such as Morning, Noon and Night. This will link to learning about the passage of time and learning to tell the time on a clock.

Congratulations to Hamza Osman from Foundation B, and Sari A from Foundation A in receiving a school value certificate this week!
