Around the Classrooms

Grade1/2K
Welcome back to Term Two. We hope you all had a restful holiday and an enjoyable Easter spent with family and friends. The students in Year 1/2 have a very busy and exciting term ahead.
Literacy
In Reading, we are continuing to focus on tricky words, vowels and compound words, as well as introducing nouns and verbs. Students are taking home two readers each week and these are designed to consolidate their learning from each lesson. In Writing, the students are read a new book each week and then given written tasks specifically related to the text. We are working on developing their writing skills, ensuring that they are using a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence, a full stop at the end and writing neatly within the lines. Once a week the students will have an opportunity to plan and create their own creative piece of writing.
Maths
In Maths, 1/2 K will be continuing to explore place value, comparing, ordering and partitioning and reading and writing numbers to 120/1000. To consolidate the learning from last term, students will be using bundling sticks and blocks to represent the thousands, hundreds, tens and ones within two-to-four-digit numbers. Following this, students will study length, addition and subtraction and patterns. Religion
This term in Religion, students will be exploring the Seven Sacraments and understanding how these rituals can help to bring us closer to God and the parish community. We are excited to be singing the Seven Sacraments song at the Grade 1/2 Mass on Sunday the 4th of May.
Inquiry
The students will participate in lots of exciting experiments during the term as they become mini scientists in the ‘Our Scientific Actions Cause Reactions’ Inquiry unit. We will be investigating the properties of natural and man-made materials and their use in everyday life. It’s going to be lots of fun.

🎨 Art Room News – Welcome to Term 2! 🐣
Welcome back and Happy Easter! We hope everyone had a restful break and is ready for another exciting term ahead.
Term 1 was a wonderful success in the Art room. Students explored and experimented with a range of tools and materials, letting their creativity shine as they brought their imaginative ideas to life. We wrapped up the term with some beautiful Easter-themed art, which showcased both their developing skills and festive spirit.
This week, our focus has shifted to ANZAC Day. Each year on April 25, Australians commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who landed at Gallipoli in 1915. Through thoughtful and meaningful art activities, our students are learning to honor and remember those who served.
Looking ahead, Term 2 promises to be just as exciting, with special events like Mother’s Day coming up. Students will continue to build on their skills and explore new techniques as they create meaningful and expressive works in the art room.
We’re looking forward to a creative and inspiring term!

Year 5/6 Camp at Forest Edge, Neerim East
The Year 5/6 students recently enjoyed an enriching and memorable experience at Forest Edge Camp, nestled in the beautiful surroundings of Neerim East. Over several days, students took part in a wide variety of outdoor activities, including high ropes, flying fox, bushwalking, archery, and team-building games. These experiences provided students with valuable opportunities to challenge themselves, try new things, and develop a stronger sense of independence.
Beyond the fun and adventure, the camp played a significant role in supporting student wellbeing. Through shared experiences, students developed resilience, built confidence, and learned how to navigate challenges in a safe and supportive environment. For many, stepping out of their comfort zone helped to reduce anxiety and boost self-esteem, as they discovered their own strengths and capabilities.
The camp also fostered stronger social connections, helping students form new friendships and deepen existing ones. The laughter, teamwork, and encouragement shared throughout the camp helped to build a sense of belonging and community.
These photos offer a glimpse into the many special moments and achievements from a truly valuable experience that students will remember for years to come.
