Dear Parents,
A big thanks to all our parents for being patient with our kiss and drop. The kiss and drop does seem to be running well at the moment although I know there is 10 minutes each night where it does stagnate. I’m sure you are all aware that we do our best every day to keep the traffic moving. Particularly Mrs Menta who is much better than I am at keeping the traffic moving.
On Monday our Preps had fun finding the letters in their name, thanks to all the parents that came along and helped! So many very cool costumes.
I’ve worked in several areas and school networks throughout my time in education. I have to say that the work the Upper Yarra RSL does to include children and families in its services is outstanding. Thank you to all the Woori families that participated in the service at Yarra Junction on ANZAC day. It was a good day weather wise and as always, an extremely well put together service, I personally loved Jim Childs address. Mary Menta is a legend and makes sure our kids always get the front row seats.
One of the best things I get to do is have morning tea with our steps winners. Last Wednesday we enjoyed a sweet and savoury morning tea with party pies, sausage rolls, cake, ice cream and a fruit platter. During the morning tea the students talked about how they get step ups from their teacher. I loved listening to the response because they all align with our values of High Expectations and Respect:
Open doors for people
Have nice manners and remember to say thank you
Be the first to be ready for the lesson
Do your best and try new things
Give good answers to questions teachers ask
Clean up your desk and be organised
Be enthusiastic
I’m doing lots of tours at the moment, even though the cut off date for enrolments isn’t until the end of July. We do like our parents to enrol as early as possible. This is solely because we want as much time as possible to determine how many grades in each year level and class sizes.
Our Prep information evening is scheduled for Wednesday 18th June. This night is really for prospective parents or new Prep Woori parents for 2026.
Our next curriculum day is Friday 9th May. I always feel for parents when we have a curriculum day as I know that it is difficult to manage. However, when we have curriculum days, the date is mostly determined by the availability of the consultants we work with. What we are always trying to do is get better and invest in our staff.
Our school would like to send an invitation to grandparents/special friends to attend the school on Friday 16th May at 1pm. The afternoon will involve a talk from Flick and I, a visit to the classrooms with activities designed for the guests and the bookfair will also be running in the hall.
Please be aware that open days do create parking issues, which we have no control over. Having said that, we hope lots of people attend and enjoy our beautiful school.
Have a great week!
And remember when life gets a little difficult, escape to the wonderful world of a book! I’m currently reading Spirits of the Ghan by Judy Nunn.
