 PBL

At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:

Respect,

Responsibility and

Kindness

For this week’s PBL lesson we continued to focus on KINDNESS Include others. We have learnt about how we can speak respectfully to each other and appreciate and celebrate our differences.

Here are some of our lucky PBL raffle winners from last week who have been spotted demonstrating our school expected behaviours.

SRC

The SRC met with me on Monday. We continued to read through the Child safe policy written in child friendly language. The children will continue to work on highlighting the importance of child safety in term 2.

3 of our Senior SRC reps have written a short report about the Leadership conference we attended last Thursday run by the city of Casey Youth services.

“Our visit to Casey youth services "Leading with purpose" with my fellow SRC members was an incredibly fun and informative experience. The event featured a variety of performances, including dancing and singing, which made the event lively and engaging.

One of the highlights was hearing from Alice Pung, an award winning author and lawyer. She shared an inspiring speech about her life journey and leadership experiences, giving us valuable insights into resilience and personal growth.

We had lots of fun - having food, receiving the city of Casey leadership badge. This experience provided us with fresh ideas on how to improve our school and the leadership qualities we should apply.

Overall, the event was a fantastic opportunity to learn, reflect, create ideas and celebrate leadership with our peers. Thank you SFS for this great opportunity”. By Rikki

“On Thursday last week, the senior SRC’s went to Bunjil place. There we listened to inspiring  stories of people sharing how they became leaders in their curriculums or communities in a theatre. All the leaders from their schools in the City of Casey were there. We had a great time there listening to people sharing their inspiring stories of how they became leaders and also some school kids sharing ideas of how they could help their school become better in some areas”. “Last Thursday the senior SRC went to Bunjil place and told us what it takes to become a leader. When they started we were greeted with  a poem and a hip hop routine which got us all really hyped and ready to take notes. My favourite speech  was Daniel’s, a young leader who stands for diverse students in the community and it  inspired me to speak up and  acknowledge the problems people have to go through. Also people having to protest is really sad. I had a great time there.” By Millie

Parents we need you ....

We are looking for some parents, grandparents or family members to come and speak to the students about their career in term 2. We are having a “Dress in your dream job” day at school, and we want the children to learn about different jobs people have and how they may have changed over time for men and women.

We will be exploring gender stereotypes as part of the Respectful Relationships curriculum. In term 2, the whole school will be learning about Topic 7, Gender Norms and Stereotypes.

If you can come on Monday 25th May to speak to the students about your job, please send me an email or speak to your child’s Homegroup teacher. If you are unable to come on that day, we can arrange another afternoon in term 2 when you can come and speak to your child’s home group about your job at 2.20pm after 2nd lunch. Alternatively, you can make a short video for us about your job. We are especially keen to find some parents or community members who work in a field which may have a gender stereotype such as a female police officer or firefighter or a male stay at home Dad, nurse or cook.

Any parents who can help us out would be greatly appreciated and can email me rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au for further information or if you are happy to be involved.

We will have a student and child workshop online on Tuesday 6th May 7 pm to 7.45 pm. In this workshop you will do some activities together with your child to help you have a conversation about gender stereotypes and learn more about the Respect Relationships program. All students and their parents are warmly invited to attend. An Operoo notice will be sent out soon inviting you to attend the online workshop.

If you have any concerns about the mental health or wellbeing of your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available to speak to at school, via the phone or email on rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and safe term1 holidays and a holy, blessed Easter with your family and friends. I look forward to working with you all in Term 2.
