Year 3/4 Team News

We would like to sincerely thank our wonderful parent helpers who came along to the Melbourne Museum excursion last week. It is much appreciated.
COMING UP:
Willy Games.
On Wednesday 10th December we will be having our annual Willy Games Day. The students will wear their house team colours and participate in a variety of events to earn points for their house.
Icecream Van.
To celebrate the end of the year in Grade 3/4, we have arranged for an ice-cream van to visit the school oval after recess on Wednesday 17th December. Students are to bring along $5 on the day (exact money please) to purchase one scoop of ice cream in a cone or a cup. Students will be in charge of their money and are encouraged to bring it along in a purse/wallet or zip lock bag. This is a lovely way to celebrate our year. As this event is on the school oval, no consent is required. Students will just need to bring their money along on the day.
REMINDERS-
Fortnightly Curriculum Focus:
Literacy: Students have been working in groups to re-write a fairy tale narrative with VOICE. They have read for inspiration and collaboratively written as a team following the writing process to publish their piece. They will make a storyboard of their key elements, creating backdrops using a variety of textiles, clay to make 3D characters and use Stop Motion to produce a Claymation version of the story. Students will then have opportunities to publish their creation in more ways such as recording it as a Pod Cast, creating a comic using Comic Life and publishing the narrative as a Digi Book on Pages.
Numeracy: Revision of the 4 operations. We are revising how to use and choose efficient calculation strategies for addition and subtraction problems involving larger numbers for example, place value partitioning, inverse relationship, compatible numbers, jump strategies, bridging tens, splitting one or more numbers, extensions to basic facts, algorithms and digital tools where appropriate. We will revise how to add two numbers to 1000 using a vertical algorithm with renaming. We will be revising how to subtract numbers from 100 using mental algorithm and a hundred chart
Inquiry: Geography ‘What in the World is Worth Protecting’. We have been learning about the natural and ancient wonders of the world and where they are located. Students will choose one of these that they would like to protect and complete a research project about it.
Respectful Relationships: Help Seeking. Students will write and share a story about help-seeking that includes details about the emotions the character felt, and the coping strategies and strengths they used.
Warm regards,
The Year 3/4 team – Rebecca Givogue & Mary Colangelo (3/4G), Katja Morris (3/4M), Grace Pante & Steven Puhar (3/4P), Alison Standish (3/4S) & Hayley Thibou (3/4T)
