Performing Arts

Grade 1/2

Students have been starting each lesson with a bucket drum warm up to Dance Monkey and Party Rock Anthem. They have watched and discussed the purpose of the songs: Waka Waka and Magic in the Air. They have also danced along to DJ Raphi’s version of these two celebratory songs. On the ukulele students have played Sunflower and Best Day of My Life using C, F and A minor chords.

Grade 3 & 4

Students have continued working on creating a 30 second radio ad on an Australian Tourist Attraction. After some vocal warmups at the beginning of each session, students are now up to the challenge of recording their ad ensuring they are clear, fluent and use a suitable tone that grabs people’s attention.

Grade 5 & 6

Students have finished up writing lyrics for a cartoon theme song and are now in the process of matching it to music. They have been given the options of singing it unaccompanied, using a backing track from Musical Wonders, accompanying themselves on instruments or creating their own track using Garage Band.

Willy’s Got Talent

It was fabulous to see around 30 talented Willy Primary students perform to an appreciative audience at the Seaside Fair on Sunday. The acts were all well prepared and varied. There were solo singers, group dances, joke telling, a duet, standup comedy and instrument solos. Well done!

Music Clubs

Our 3 music clubs did our school proud performing at the Seaside Fair on Sunday. For the first time we had a combined song between the 2 bands which was enjoyed by the crowd! The Choir finished off the entertainment for the day with a lovely set of 4 songs that focused on the school values.

Upcoming performances:

Music Clubs Performance on Friday 5th December.

Time: 3.30 – 4.10pm outside the library.

The Rock Band will kick off the performances at 3.30pm, followed by the Marimba Band and Choir.

Please come along and support the students in our music clubs as they perform for the school community.

Final school assembly on Friday 19th December. Time: 9.15am in the hall.

The Marimba Band and Rock Band will play their final performance together at the start of the assembly. (The Choir will not be taking part at this assembly).

Warm regards,

Faye Ferry & Lynne Georgiadis

Visual Art

Seaside Fair

What a wonderful day ! We all had a great time on Sunday exploring all the activities and food at our Seaside Fair. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the 5/6 Gallery to see our ‘Mini Art Show.’ Our Arty Willy Kids produced some beautiful artwork which was displayed for everyone to appreciate. I’ve added some photos of our art display for anyone who missed out.

Grade Prep

This week, the Grade Preps are working on some Christmas trees to sell at the Wishing Tree Stall. I was very impressed with the effort they displayed when placing their tiny sequins and stars. Well done, these look amazing!

Grade 1

The Grade 1’s have been busy creating some wrapping paper to sell at the Wishing Tree Stall. We have a variety of papers including reindeers, Santas and elves. This paper will be perfect to wrap your Christmas gifts.

Grade 2

The Grade 2’s are creating tiny wool Santa ornaments. This was a bit tricky at first, but the students showed great perseverance and enjoyed the process once they got the hang of it. We are adding the pom pom heads this week and these will be sold at the wishing tree stall. The students are finding it hard to part with these quirky characters.

Grade 3/4

The 3/4's contribution to the Wishing Tree Stall will be small gingerbread house ornaments. This was a simple and fun activity using recycled cardboard and white pens. The students are very excited about these and have asked if they can buy the ornament they created.

Grade 5/6’s

The Grade 5/6’s have completed their Henri Matisse inspired pieces. These look amazing with lots of stunning colour combinations. They made a striking entry display at our Seaside Fair. I will be selecting a few of these art pieces to be colour photocopied and sold at the wishing tree stall as wrapping paper.  This will be a less ‘Christmassy’ alternative to the wrapping paper created by the grade 1 students.

Art Supplies

We are already looking ahead to the 2026 Art Show and need some interesting supplies. If you happen to have any used, ready to throw away paint brushes like the ones in the photo, can you please send them along to the Art Room? If we get enough supplies, we will be creating some fun characters with recycled materials. Thank you to those who have already dropped some off to the Art Room.

Physical Education

We’re heading into the final stretch of Term 4, and students are diving into their activities with great enthusiasm as we build toward the end-of-year events.

Prep: Students are learning a range of fun foundation games in preparation for the upcoming 'Willy Games'. They are practising taking turns, following rules, and working together in simple team challenges.

Grade 1: Students are continuing their unit on Indigenous games, including the traditional ball game 'Marngrook'. These games help develop teamwork, movement skills, and an appreciation of First Nations history and culture.

Grade 3 & 4: The focus is on striking and fielding skills through modified tee-ball. Students are learning how to strike with control, make quick fielding decisions, and support their teammates during fast-paced mini-games.

Grade 5 & 6: Students continue to develop their futsal skills, building confidence in passing, movement off the ball, and small-group tactical play.

Sport Update

Well done to all our students as we approach the end of the term! With the 'Willy Games' just around the corner and several year levels completing their final units, it’s been a busy and exciting time in the PE and Sport program.

Good luck to our Boys/Mixed and Girls Lacrosse teams who will compete in the State Finals tomorrow. We are incredibly proud of how far they’ve come and wish them all the very best for the big day!

Warm regards,

Paddy Gallivan

LOTE - French

In the past fortnight, we have adopted a French Maths focus across the Prep to Year 6s. Prep to 2s have focused on numbers up to 20 (Preps), 30 (Year 1s) and 40 (Year 2s), while 3/6s have taken the magnifying glass to dive deep into intricacies of numbers up to 50 (3/4s) and 70 (5/6s) using an innovative-reflective-introspective number chart approach.

I had a very interesting conversation yesterday with a 5/6 class, discussing how all the French work we have been doing has actually helped them strengthen their own native language of English. They also came to the realisation that doing French Maths is supporting their own mathematical skills in the classroom. How? Simply through the brain processing pattern of translation that, for some, can occurs in fractions of seconds without them even noticing. Reinforcement of the native language foundations is always in motion in the French classroom – whether consciously or not.
