From The Team
As this is our final newsletter for 2025, the Year 5/6 teaching team would like to say a massive thank you to our students on an amazing year. They have worked so hard as senior students of our school, and made immense progress both academically and personally. We’re all very proud of you all and hope that you can take something away from this year that helps you all be the best versions of yourselves.
From Sarah - as team leader, I’d like to thank our teaching team for the extra mile they go for our students and this school. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that is done both in and outside of school hours and I’m very appreciative of them for the great year we’ve had together.
We’d also like to thank our Year 5/6 families for their support this year. You’ve generously supported us in so many ways, with events like our Shark Tank Expo, open mornings, parent transport, attending sports days, coaching, donations and, especially, a big thanks to our Graduation Parent Committee for all they are doing to make our Graduation Disco awesome! We’re sincerely grateful for all that you have done and your cooperation throughout the year; we couldn’t have done it without you!
We’re going out with a bang this year and we have a very busy last couple of weeks! Our Year 5s will meet their 2026 cohort, receive their Year 6 polo shirts, find out captaincy roles, write letters to their future Prep buddies, and much more. For our Year 6s, they're very excited to prepare for high school with their transition session approaching, graduation, last Christmas Concert, shirt signing, saying goodbye to their buddies, and their final Big Day Out to Luna Park!

Staff v Students Netball Game
Last week’s staff v student netball game had everything: drama, athleticism, questionable footwork, and at least three players who clearly forgot the rules halfway through! The teachers were short on numbers, so they drafted in a couple of students who were bribed* with promises of “extra Dojo points” (*not legally binding). Even with the reinforcements, it was shaping up to be a close contest…until Emily (integration aide) parked herself in the goal shooter position, planted like a gum tree, and started sinking goals at a rate that should, honestly, be investigated. Five goals before half time. Unstoppable.
The students kept themselves in it thanks to Georgia and Eason, who ran on pure energy and determination. Meanwhile, Miss Harper ran the centre like a cheetah on turbo mode…everywhere, all the time, stealing passes and hearts. Mr Purdon played the role of Kmart Max Gawn brilliantly, using his height to cause chaos in the circle, and Mrs Foenander turned back the clock with laser-beam passes that set up some classy finishes. Over on the students’ side, Kai battled hard all game and Mia chimed in well with some smart plays. And overseeing all of this was Mrs Hartley, the umpire, who made sure there were no rules broken!
After a fast, fun, action-packed match, the teachers got the chocolates in the end by about 6-7 goals. Huge thanks to everyone who played. Fingers crossed for more staff v student showdowns next year… once the teachers recover from their injuries!

Making Playdough With Julie
Last week, all Year 5/6 students got to make playdough with Julie in the 5/6 collaborative kitchen. We started by adding 8 cups of flour into an empty tub, then we added 3 cups of salt, 1 cup of cooking oil, 8 cups of hot water, and started to knead the dough. Then all students in 5/6B chose to dye their playdough pink, 5/6H chose green, and 5/6C chose blue, so their playdough could have a big spark of colour! After that we got to play with our playdough and we made many things.
