VCE VM – APPLIED LEARNING IN ACTION: making everyday count!
CELEBRATION DAY 2025
Celebration Day will be remembered for its fun, relaxation and laughter. Students kicked off the day by catching the train into the city at 8.30 am. For some, it was the joy of spending a day out with friends; for others, it was the goal of being crowned ‘best striker’
Once students arrived, the group headed straight to Strike for two lively and competitive rounds of bowling. The lanes were filled with cheering, playful victory celebrations, and plenty of dramatic slow-motion moments as bowling balls made their way, sometimes gracefully, sometimes not so gracefully, toward the pins. Strikes were met with celebrations worthy of a grand final win, while gutter balls were handled with humour and encouragement from friends.
After bowling, students had free time to explore the city. Shopping bags quickly multiplied as they wandered through their favourite stores, discovering bargains, snacks, and treats. Lunch was another highlight, with groups scattering to different spots across the city to enjoy their meals while soaking in the sunshine and city vibes.
A perfect celebration day, full of fun, friendship, and friendly competition!
FINAL ASSEMBLY
Headstart 2025 kicked off with energy, and a clear vision for the year ahead. Our firstassembly set the tone, celebrating the many successes of 2025 while outlining the expectations for our new Year 11 cohort stepping into 2026. The message was simple, strong, and encouraging: this is a fresh beginning, and every student can start the year with purpose and pride. Leaders highlighted key expectations designed to support a focused and professional learning environment. No sports uniform, except for designated classes, reinforces the importance of presentation and readiness for applied learning. No phones and no headphones on display underscored our commitment to minimising distractions and maximising meaningful engagement. And, as always, the importance of being on time was emphasised, not just as a school expectation, but as a life/work skill that builds reliability, respect, and success. It was obvious to the VCE VM team that students have stepped into their senior pathways with maturity and confidence. The assembly also showcased achievements from 2025, reminding students of the growth, resilience, and community spirit that define our college. Headstart iin the VCE VM space marks the beginning of the journey, not the end, and thisyear’s cohort has already shown they are ready to rise to the challenge. With strong expectations and a positive mindset, 2026 is set to be a year of progress, pride, andextraordinary potential.INSERT PHOTOS
VHUB GETS A FACELIFT
The VCAFE has a long and proud history at McClelland College, beginning in 2012 when itfirst operated out of a converted cleaner’s closet. Over the years, it has grown far beyond its humble beginnings. What started as a small student-run café has since become a vital
applied learning environment, one that provides students with authentic workplace experiences, practical skill development, and meaningful opportunities for community engagement. Despite its significance, the VCAFE has often been overlooked as a physical space, relying entirely on self-funding to sustain its operations and resources. In 2026, we are excited to introduce the new and improved applied learning space: the VHUB. This VHUB is now home to far more than just the VCAFE. The VHUB includes a fully equipped VKitchen, dedicated spaces for toolkit meetings, a projects room, and ample desk space, creating the ultimate environment for applied learning. This transformation represents an important investment in our students, ensuring they have access to high-quality, industry-aligned spaces that support creativity, collaboration, and real-world learning. The VHUB marks a new chapter for applied learning at McClelland College, one built on innovation, opportunity, and continued student success.

The VCE VM team would like to wish all our students and their families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe New Year.As we close out another incredibly rewarding year, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the support, partnership, and positivity shown throughout 2025. Our students have demonstrated growth, resilience, and a genuine commitment to their learning, and we could not be prouder of all they have achieved. The applied learning space thrives on collaboration, encouragement, and strong relationships, and this year has been a testament to exactly that. From hands-on projects to real-world learning experiences, our students have embraced every challenge with determination and creativity. Their successes have been shared wins for all of us: students, families, and staff. As we look ahead to 2026, we are excited for the journey to continue. We look forward toworking closely with our students, supporting their pathways, and being a part of their successes in the applied learning space. Whether it’s through new opportunities, higher expectations, or continued growth, we know the year ahead will bring even more reasons to celebrate.
